This article covers how to sign in to your Outlook desktop app on PC or Mac with Microsoft Authenticator.
Instructions
Open the Outlook desktop app.
An SJC Authentication screen should appear. Enter your College network password and then click Sign In.
Enter your username and password.
Click Sign In.
An Approve sign in screen will appear asking you to approve the request using your Microsoft Authenticator app.
Don't have the Microsoft Authenticator app? View instructions on how to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Open the notification or the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device.
Choose Approve if you recognize the sign-in attempt. Otherwise, choose Deny.
Use your phone’s PIN or your biometric key to complete the authentication. You're done!
Your Outlook should be updated.
If that did not work or you did not see the SJC Authentication page, choose your device below for detailed instructions:
Windows/PC
Close your Outlook app.
Click on the Start menu. Type Control Panel in the search box. Then select Control Panel in the search results.
Click on the Start menu.
Enter Control Panel in the search field.
Select the Control Panel option in the search results.
Select User Accounts.
Select Mail (Outlook 2016)
Click Show Profiles in the Profiles section.
Click on the profile and then click Remove.
Click Yes
All of your email, calendar events, contacts, and tasks should be synchronized with the Office 365 email server, so you won't lose any content by removing this profile.
If you have a personal folder (.pst), you may need to re-connect it to your Outlook, but none of the content in it should be affected.
Click OK. You can also close the Control Panel window.
Open the Microsoft Outlook app.
Enter a name for your new Outlook profile (it should be different from the previous one). Then click OK.
Enter a new name for your Outlook profile. This can be anything you'd like, but it should be different from the previous one just to have a clean slate.
Then click OK.
Outlook may find your SanJac email address. If not, you can type in your email address. Then click Connect.
Select or type in your SanJac email address. Faculty/staff should enter their @sjcd.edu email address; students should enter their @stu.sanjac.edu email address.
Then click Connect.
The SanJac Authentication page should appear. Enter your College network password. Then click Sign In.
Enter your College network password. This is the same password you use to log into a campus computer.
Then click Sign In.
An Approve sign in screen will appear asking you to approve the request using your Microsoft Authenticator app.

Open the notification or the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device.
Choose Approve if you recognize the sign-in attempt. Otherwise, choose Deny.
Use your phone’s PIN or your biometric key to complete the authentication. You're done!
Depending on the size of your mailbox, it may take several minutes to populate your emails, calendar events, contacts, and tasks. Please be patient!
Mac
You may see a Sync Errors screen when Outlook tries to update. You can close this screen.
Click on the Outlook menu and select Preferences.
Click on the Outlook menu.
Select Preferences.
Select Accounts.
Click on your SJC account to select it. Then click the minus icon at the bottom of the screen to remove it.
Click Yes
Once your account is deleted, click Add Email Account.
Enter your SJC email address. Then click Continue.
Enter your SJC email address. Faculty/staff should enter their @sjcd.edu email address; students should enter their @stu.sanjac.edu email address.
Then click Continue.
Enter your College network password and click Sign In.
Your SJC email address should already be populated on this screen, but if not, you can type it in.
Enter your College network password. This is the same password that you use to log on to the campus computer.
Then click Sign In.
An Approve sign in screen will appear asking you to approve the request using your Microsoft Authenticator app.

Open the notification or the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device.

Use your phone’s PIN or your biometric key to complete the authentication. You're done!
You can close the Accounts screen by clicking on the red circle. It may take a few minutes for your emails, calendar events, and other information to populate in the app.
If prompted to use the autodiscover-s.outlook.com server to get new settings for your account, click Allow.
